#adventbookclub Day 3: Death

“The baby who is to be born is coming to change the world…”

But changing the world isn’t always easy, or ‘nice’, or comfortable. Changing the world can bring us face to face with heaven, hell and everything in between.

Advent brings us face to face with reality, as well as hope. The reality of living in an imperfect world. The reality of situations which seem hopeless. The reality of judgement and death and endings and uncomfortable truth.

Only when we are willing to live honestly with reality, to live undefendedly before God, can we open ourselves to be transformed by the boundless love and grace of the One who creates and redeems us. Only then can we look death squarely in the face, with the certain hope that we know and are known by One who has already overcome it.

#adventbookclub runs from 1st December until Epiphany. This year we are using “The Art of Advent” by Jane Williams, and raising some money for Mercy UK, a mental health charity over at the JustGiving page here. Search #adventbookclub on Twitter or Facebook to join in the conversation.
